Apparel Fit Guide

Still figuring out your size? We've got you. This guide walks you through everything you need to know — from women's versus unisex cuts to when to size up for that intentionally oversized look.

Women's vs. Unisex Cuts: What's the Difference?

Most of our tops and tees are cut for a women's silhouette — meaning they're shaped with a slightly narrower shoulder, tapered waist, and a shorter overall length than a traditional unisex or men's-style cut.

  • Women's cut: More defined at the waist, shorter body length, narrower shoulders. Styles like The Better Than Basic Ribbed Tank and The Wildflower Henley fall into this category.
  • Relaxed / boxy cut: Dropped shoulders, straight silhouette, more room through the body. Styles like The Curly Q Ribbed Top, The Hadley Sweater Shirt, and The Midnight Mood Top fit this description.

Check the individual product description for silhouette callouts — we flag whether something is fitted, relaxed, or oversized in the Fit & Sizing section of every listing.

Should I Size Up for an Oversized Look?

It depends on how the style is cut:

  • Already designed to be oversized (e.g., Soft Skies Waffle Top, The Midnight Mood Top): Order your true size for the intended look. Size down if you prefer something more fitted.
  • True-to-size or fitted styles (e.g., Bluebell Basic Ribbed Tee, The Wildflower Henley): Size up one if you want a relaxed, oversized feel.
  • Boxy / relaxed styles (e.g., The Hadley Sweater Shirt, The Curly Q Ribbed Top): These run generously — check the size range callout (e.g., S/M = sizes 2–10) before sizing up.

When in doubt, check the model notes in the product listing — Stevie's height and the size she's wearing are listed so you can compare.

Understanding Our Size Ranges

We use a mix of standard sizing (XS–XL) and range sizing (S/M, L/XL) depending on the style. Here's a general reference:

Label Approximate Size Range
XS / 0–2 Bust 32–33", Waist 25–26", Hip 35–36"
S / 2–4 Bust 34–35", Waist 27–28", Hip 37–38"
M / 6–8 Bust 36–37", Waist 29–30", Hip 39–40"
L / 10–12 Bust 38–40", Waist 31–33", Hip 41–43"
XL / 12–14 Bust 41–43", Waist 34–36", Hip 44–46"
S/M Sizes 2–10 typically
L/XL Sizes 10–16 typically

⚠️ Note to store owner: The measurements above are general estimates. Please verify and update with your actual garment measurements for each style before publishing this page.

Does It Stretch?

Stretch varies by fabric. Here's a quick reference:

  • Ribbed knit (cotton/spandex blend): Good stretch — styles like The Wildflower Henley (97% Cotton, 3% Spandex) have a soft give that hugs the body without feeling restrictive.
  • Waffle knit: Minimal stretch — the Soft Skies Waffle Top is soft but less stretchy; sizing to your measurements is recommended.
  • 100% cotton (washed/acid-wash): Little to no stretch — the Midnight Mood Top is 100% cotton; size up if you're between sizes.
  • Open-knit sweater: No stretch but a forgiving, relaxed fit — like the Cross My Heart Knit Sweater.
  • Rayon/polyester blend: Soft with moderate stretch — styles like the Better Than Basic Ribbed Tank.

How to Compare Something You Already Own

The easiest way to get the right fit is to measure a piece you already love:

  1. Lay the garment flat on a table.
  2. Measure across the chest (armpit to armpit) and double it for the full bust.
  3. Measure the body length from the highest point of the shoulder to the hem.
  4. Compare those numbers to the product's garment measurements (listed on each product page where available).

If you want a cropped look, subtract 1–2 inches from your ideal body length. If you want extra room through the bust, add 2–4 inches.

⚠️ Products flagged for merchant review: During setup, we identified products that may be missing fit details in their descriptions or size metafields. Before publishing this page, we recommend confirming fit notes are added to: Jesus Camo Woodland Tee, The Wildflower Henley, The Hadley Sweater Shirt, The Curly Q Ribbed Top, and any other products without garment measurements listed.
